TEARS
AND ANGER
1989 on Christmas Eve I crossed into Roumania with the first trucks of foreign medical aid. Bucarest was on fire with snipers firing into the crowds from the roofs. The dictator Ceaucescu was executed. It was the beginning of the downfall of communism. I lived through two weeks of terror, tears and of jubilation as the totalitarian state was opened to the outside world. Copyright: Erling Söderström |
